Hi everyone .
Was wondering if anyone suffers from travel sickness ( mainly on planes ), and has tried any medication that has really helped . My parents would like my son to go back to Uk for Christmas holidays . He wants to go , but is worried about the flight as he gets really sick . Any advice gratefully received ,

I know it's pretty hard to get a Valium prescription . He will be 16, should the doctor be ok about giving him a couple of tabs

Thank you for the suggestions . I'll go to chemist and take their recommendation . He likes ginger biscuits so he'll be pleased with that 👍👍

Full fat Ginger Ale is also good. They generally have it in small cans. Don't know how his ears work (bear with me) but if he does start feeling queasy and he's wearing ear buds or phones take them off. I can't wear any sort of bud/phones, they mess with my balance and I get very ill. Might help him, might not but worth trying.

This might be a bit drastic (you decide!) but when I went on my first (and last) cruise there was a storm and I was really nauseous. Ship's doctor prescribed omeprazole and I was right as rain. It's a prescription medicine and quite pricey - your GP will know if it's ok to prescribe it for your son. Hope he has a great trip!

I get very bad motion sickness and a couple of things have worked for me - the usual stand by is Avomine (OTC) and one pill lasts me the whole flight (also helps me sleep). The other, I used to use were scopolomine patches and I just bought 2 in UK OTC and they give you 3 days relief (tiny patches behind the ears) but they are expensive.

Make sure you book a seat near the wings of the aircraft too. The larger planes like 747 and A380 can be like see-saws in bad weather. The tail and nose can move up and down quite a lot, you don't feel it so much sat in the middle. A bit like avoiding cabins at the stern and aft of a cruise ship.

I suffer from motion sickness....not just travel but any motion, swings, roundabouts as well as all modes of travel expect for trains.
I generally just use the non drowsy pills...Dramamine is what they sell in the USA, it's does make still make me sleepy but it doesn't knock me out the way the reg formula does.
In the past when I travelled alone with my young children I have use the seabands....they are an elastic bracelet that has an acupuncture point that puts pressure on the wrist and helps alleviate the sickness.
For me I don't take a window seat and I never glance out of the window as once my mind recognizes I am in mid air I start to panics and feel sick. The best thing to do is to try to sleep as much as possible. Landing s are my worst point so I never eat close to landing (for me at least 3-4 hrs).
