Would you, personally, kill an animal you wanted to eat if that was the only way you could ever eat meat... or would you go vegetarian?
Possibly I could do fish and poultry... I think.

I would do whatever was necessary to avoid being a vegetarian

No! never! I've watched but wouldn't do the job myself-my preferred foods are lettuce and bread anyway so although not vegetarian I'm perfectly happy without meat or fish.

Not sure I could kill it, but would do the rest of the butchering.
Unless it was a bloody rabbit, then I could easily murder the thing.

Yup. I would have no problem killing what I want to eat.

I've got daughters that are vegetarian and a vegan, which is a bit hard to take for car dedicated carnivores like the Wife and Myself. I reckon I could once, although whether I could do it twice would remain to be seen.
Imagine keeping pigs and doing it, they act like dogs if you treat them right.... I reckon they would be very difficult to kill emotionally. God knows how that Hugh bloke on tv does it.
Hmm I think my daughters are getting to me lol !!

I recently stumbled upon a survivor type program on tv where a man was challenged to survive on a remote island. He hadn't had meat for ages but happened upon a goat which was caught up in vines.
Without weapons, he killed the goat by hitting it with a rock. (Once, I hope - it didn't show). I don't think I could do that, but I was impressed with how he went on to use all the animal... even smoke drying strips of meat to keep for later.
Whilst fish and poultry would be easier, I suppose I could shoot a red meat animal (at close range ) but couldn't kill a pet I had bonded with. I really like HFW's promotion of the River Cottage lifestyle but agree, I would have difficulty with those friendly pigs.

I have hunted since i was aged about 6. Had my own gun from aged 8. I also fish and have kept chickens in the past both for eggs and meat.
I believe if your not prepared to eat wht you hunt you shouldnt hunt and that everybody should go to hunt at least once in order to understand that the meat you eat does come from an animal and not just from a shop.
Where i work now, most of the meat arrives at the kitchen still walking and its fairly normal for a goat to be tied to the camp fence for dinner the following day.

Yes. If the only way I could get bacon was by killing and butching a pig then I'd do it. We used to keep chickens and decided that when they died we wouldn't eat them so we named them. However if we were reliant on them, they wouldn't have had names and they'd have ended up in the oven.
