Well my understanding of it is rather different. It apparently took Greenland three years to exit, the only situation of some similarity.

Besides a referendum does not have to be recognised and as such can only be a gage of the public mood under the UK system.

Greenland left the EEC in 1985.

The Treaty of Lisbon which brought in Article 50 came into force in 2009 so I'm not sure anything Greenland did is relevant to the UK situation.

So Theresa May or Angela Leadsom will be British PM in 62 days time and at some point after that Article 50 will be activated.

Experience

Home Secretary (since May 2010), Women and Equalities minister (May 2010 – Sept 2012), shadow Work and Pensions secretary (Jan 2009 – May 2010), shadow Women and Equality secretary (July 2007 – May 2010), shadow Leader of the House of Commons (Dec 2005 – Jan 2009), shadow Culture secretary (May 2005 – Dec 2005), shadow Family secretary (June 2004 – Dec 2005), shadow Environment and Transport secretary (Nov 2003 – June 2004), Conservative party chairman (July 2002 – Nov 2003), shadow Transport secretary (June 2002 – July 2002), shadow Transport, Local Government and the Regions (Sept 2001 – June 2002), shadow Education and Employment secretary (June 1999 – September 2001), MP for Maidenhead (since 1997).

vs

Experience

Energy minister (since May 2015), Economic secretary to the Treasury (April 2014 – May 2015), MP for South Northamptonshire (since May 2010)

Seems a pretty obvious choice and no surprise May is 5/1 On to win and Leadsom 9/2 in a two horse race. May is a remainer, Leadsom is a leaver so might end up closer than it is now.
