Opening an Aussie Bank Account from UK
Has anybody been successful in opening an Australian bank account from a UK address, without planning to be in Australia any time soon?
I left Australia to live in the UK in 2008 and my existing ANZ account is still up and running just fine. The problem is there are $10 of fees going out each month. I use the account so rarely that these fees are a complete waste of money for me. I need an account (like ING Direct's Everyday Orange) that does not attract fees and which provides a Visa/MC debit card, so I can continue to make the occasional Australian-based transaction.
The problem seems to be that banks require an Australian residential address to open a new account against. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Re: Opening an Aussie Bank Account from UK
About ten years ago Macquarie Bank forced me to close the AUD account I had had for thirty years or so, because I didn't have an Australian street address. Pollyanna's experience has been different, so I guess it depends entirely on what bank you use.

Tell ANZ to stick their fees or you will move to someone else. Anyone who tolerates bank fees in Australia is being taken for a ride.
