Olympics 2016
I'm surprised there is no thread for this yet.
USA just went ahead in the gold medal count. From my perspective Australia lost second place in the men's swimming relay because of Magnussen. It was a good race though.
Djokovic just got kicked out in tennis.
I'm trying to find a good app/website that can provide a schedule based on country but cannot.

Re: Olympics 2016
Been watching on 7 and on BBC iplayer (live stream is surprising good considering its the technologically challenged BBC)
Excellent coverage on both counts - each biased towards their own nation naturally
Really enjoyed the shooting, archery and table tennis
Australia doing better than last time that's for sure

I know its how they count it, but its a bit ridiculous and obvious if you send 300 or 400 athletes you are going to win more than the majority of countries who send a handful or even 100 athletes. Should divide tally by amount of participants. Or by who spent half a billion on training v a third world athletes budget.

I don't agree. The best athletes probably have the best training equipment or trainers but they are still the best athletes. It's not called the most natural athlete Olympics. Plus, adding more athletes doesn't mean more medals as they dont gain an advantage in any sport by having more representatives in any particular event. If they are good enough, they win medals.

With the 7 Olympic app you're supposed to be able to choose different countries and get alerts for various events that they're in, but I haven't done any major research, just going off the adverts.

No country with 6 entrants is ever going to be top of da league.
USA China, used to be Russia, Australia and anyone else who sent in a army sized contingent.
My partners niece is actually in the Olympics, after one year of training , amazing perks, free luxury accom year round, airfares, training, Uni, sponsorships, equipment, medical, dental, overseas camps, all paid for, does not even have to buy groceries, and a free car. It totally blew my perception of how poor these kids do it to get there, they train hard but never have to put hand in pocket. Makes a fabulous living, but they still fundraise to get her there

Countries with the largest numbers of athletes or biggest budgets do win every time. Will happen again this year too. BBC has predicted the result by economists who worked it out on those factors.
