New Years Resolutions

Re: New Years Resolutions
A flat route will definitely help though! And you'll feel great when you get to the finish

4) Finish a 90 km cycle in less than 3.25 hours. (and not die at the end of it)[/QUOTE]
Good luck Dorothy. It is such an achievement when you finish and even more so in the time you set yourself.
Scubaemma - done quite a number of half marathons but the 50 k is cross country and should be much more fun than just road running. Get a team together and come on down. I can organise support vehicles which can also help your team

Well good luck Hebe! I did a half marathon last year and the thought of running any further than that is madness
Good luck with your cycling Dorothy. I take part in a couple of 100km fun rides each year (charity ones they do here in Brisbane) and that would be a good time. I normally try and do 100km in under 4 hours (3 hours 50 mins still counts as under 4 right!)

Re: New Years Resolutions
I have a new one to add now after opening my gifts - a sky dive on to St Kilda beach - and I am petrified of flying and heights!!!!

I would not thank the person who gave me something I was terrified of.

Re: New Years Resolutions
Not too badly thanks. Riding tentatively on the road now and have been able to get into full aero position on the TT bike in the turbo. Got a bit of an inflamed knee at the moment, probably a bit too eager to ramp up the treadmill speed (could be tracking/glute imbalance) so I've rested it completely for about 7 days now, seems better.
Swimming is on the improve but laughingly slow, holding approx 55sec/50mtrs over about 800-1000mtrs and blowing out to closer to 60sec/50mtrs over 1km and beyond. It's mostly down to restricted hip rotation to protect the operation area. I'm working with my coach and changing styles at the moment (wider arms and exaggerated forearm bend).
It's all generally heading in the right direction though. Of course, this didn't help

How is your DD going?

The speed you are currently doing is roughly what I normally do- I'm not a competitive swimmer, and don't dive or do tumbleturns!! I take roughly 20 mins per km, but that is alternating free with breaststroke every 100m. DD is twice as fast as me.
DD has 5 swims at State level in the new year- 3 individual and 2 relays. She is complaining that her knee gets sore if she does too much breast stroke- she has a 100 and 200 breaststroke race!! She is trying to rest it and just do pull as much as possible, as we can't get in to see anyone over the Xmas/new year, and her first race is on the 8th Jan.

Re: New Years Resolutions
Half or full? (edit: I'm an idiot, of course it's the Half if it's 90kms) the course isn't hilly but flat courses represent their own problems, in that you don't get to lift out of the saddle. 180kms on a flat course takes me about 5:25 (or used to before my ops) depending on the wind and yaw. But the conditioning to race in the same gear in the same position is completely different to the conditioning required to race 180kms of hills. They're both hard, in different ways.
Good luck
Good luck
Hope you're healing well after your ops.
