I signed up for a VPN: PIA works a treat on the laptops & phones. Sadly not compatible with the Sony Bravia T.V nor connecting straight to the Telstra gateway modem we connect to the Wireless NBN connection.
I might have to invest in a modem/router that will be suitable.

Got my Xiaomi Mi Box today and sets up pretty easily. Before I get into the delights of Kodi and all it has to offer, wanted to get VPN sorted on it. I'm with NordVPN but their app is not available of Google TV app store. Had a look at sideloading and downloaded the app, which opens ok, but must be designed for touch screen as I can't make any selections on the app front screen to set it up or log into my account.
So how do you install a VPN on your Google TV box?

I couldn't load it on the android T.V & can't do it to the telstra supplied modem. I can however change the modem for one that can be installed with my vpn. Or simply do away with Kodi & Exodus on the T.V and simply use them on the laptop and chromecast to the T.V
When I asked at the local JB Hi-FI their tech guy just shrugged and said he didn't bother with a vpn [for Exodus] as there wasn't a need as yet.
There are several tutorials on youtube showing how to sideload various VPNs I waded through a couple with no success.

Yes, Exodus does not need a VPN to work

I don't bother with VPNs as they are a PITA and just go with the DNS redirect - much simpler and gives you more options on different devices

I watch Kodi content on a Samsung TV by screen mirroring it from a Samsung tablet.

Can't use a VPN though as it isn't compatible with the screen mirror.

Think I've found a way to do this.......set up a Virtual Router on the laptop and have the laptop connected to the VPN, and then your streaming box connected to your Virtual network running on the laptop. Most of the VPN services have a guide on how to do this, and it took me about 5 mins to set it up. Speed has reduced a bit, so do get some buffering occasionally, however I guess with a bit of trial and error will be able to find a quicker server.

Anyone with any experience of this.....any idea what is the best type of server to connect to? A standard VPN server in the country you want, or a P2P server as I think the Kodi add-ons seem to be a sort of P2P?
