Melbourne most liveable city for 6th year in a row.
I reckon it actually went backwards a bit this year personally. The traffic is getting pretty bad, and there are a lot of homeless around, Still....
I blame this City for causing me to have issues when I visit places overseas now. We seem to live in a locale that does most things excellently. I guess it's called being spoilt. So where does one go from here.
6 years !!! You wouldn't read about it.
So read about it here

Not sure I really get this, traveling / visiting isn't the same as living...I mean, Adelaide is 6 on the list apparently but I can pretty much guarantee I'd rather be visiting Ho Chi Minh City at #122!

Think the main minus points now are the housing cost and sheer competition, the homeless seem to have spiraled for sure, my main issue would be the amount of crime, its pretty out there. Drug related crime mainly. One sons a student paramedic OMG.
Best bits are seasonal changes, the wildly swinging weather which keeps it interesting, always something to do it you need it, shopping is not bad either. I dont think we buy anything in a packet ever, its all markets and ethnic food stores. The coffee thing bores me to tears, and restaurants are mainly hideously expensive.
Not at all sure its spoilt me for overseas where do you go ?
Melbourne on a cold rainy windy night is my favourite, meeting the kids under the Flinders street clock, catching up on all their new life events. I love to waste half hour on a tram too, you end up in some interesting places.
Oh and H and M, reminds me of UK when I was a teen, plus did I really pay $5 for mohair sweaters, silk jackets, skinny jeans. Sod the markets.
I am currently addicted to Vietnamese food, the $8 a plate/bowl type, where you are the only white people in there. On the way there few weekends back , we drove into what I thought was a massive scene from a terror movie. Nope just a massive police raid, very rough area, terrorism it turns out, think they only arrested one person, an aussie, but its stuff like that that keeps the interstate guests coming back, or away but they loved the food.

Although we've visited Ho Chi Minh a lot, buggered if I'll go back after our last visit. We were robbed in the street - that was fine compared with our experiences afterwards with the local police!

This list has no credit. Putting Adelaide, Calgary and Hamburg in there. Please.
At least they got it right on Brisbane.

The best place in the world to live is - where you're happy.

Apparently Melbourne and Sydney are two of the most multi cultural cities in the world these days, with 35 pct of Melburnians and 38pct of Sydneysiders born overseas.

'The most liveable places, notes the EIU, tend to be “mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with a relatively low population density”, which explains the low ranking of near-megacities like London and New York and goes some way to explaining Melbourne’s continued place in the sun.'

I personally can't stand Melbourne. Country VIC, lovely. Melb - visited now about four or five times and IMO gets worse every time. I know visiting is different to living, however, I can't think of one reason I would want to live there.

Never confuse a great place to visit with a great place to live!
Everyone's different but
- great job opportunities
- beautiful beaches within a short commute to the city
- easy access to sea, snow and country
- great city never to get bored in with loads going on the whole time.
would be a good start as to why I love living here.

You obviously don't need granny to teach you how to suck eggs but the survey uses 140 measures; it's not judged on climate alone. Every city has some drawbacks; it's an attempt to rank on many things and Calgary comes out where it does.

I know many Calgarians who love living there and wouldn't dream of residing elsewhere. Good for them. Wouldn't work for us. Last time we spent 4 weeks in Edmonton during the winter, our kids were begging us to rebook our flights back to Australia so we could go home early because they were sick of us dragging them out to play outside in -20 and telling them "It's not that cold." They weren't buying it.
