The Dunalley fire registered on the BoM temperature gauges - as the fire went past it went from 38.5 to 54.9 then back to 49 and gradually dropped. MAny of the townspeople had to flee into the water, can't imagine what it was like.

At least it's gone back to bearable now. Next weeks forecast doesn't look as extreme.

I swear there used to be lots of these hot weeks in the early 80's and people bang on about climate change.

As long as it doesn't go above 34 degrees I'm happy.

I live in Adelaide and truly hate this time of year. On a personal level, I can handle the hot temperatures (just!), but it is the associated dangers that come with it that bother me most.
If there is a God out there, then please keep us safe over the next few horrible days

I have to agree with you. One gets a bit nervy when the fires start. Two night ago, there was (and still is) a fire about 100k south of here. The wind turned back south late in the evening and we could smell the smoke here.

Then, on the other hand, this morning early it was 12 degrees and a very strong south wind and it was freezing!! Up to 30 now mind.

All good fun.

There was a fire about 2 km northeast of us yesterday. The water bombers & helicopters were so low over our house the windows rattled every 5 minutes as they went over. Thankfully it was contained very quickly and no homes were lost but the end of our street is the beginning of bushland, so if that went up I'm pretty certain we'd be in trouble. It's not only the flames but the burning embers flying around that start the smaller fires.

Good news for Adelaidians - this week's forecast is downgraded a bit -

40, 33, 27, 34, 35, 29, 35

Not too bad at all now... excellent!

The embers can get unprepared properties away from the bush fires. The worst affected properties in Canberra were away from the bush and not prepared.

The rental I am in would go up in a flash with an ember attack.

well i live semi rural - small town of 160 people 30 minutes outside of Albury - NSW side. have had a terribly hot/dry weekend with temps in the region of 40-44 so far and tomorrow is the worst prediction so far.

High fire danger and very worrying times. UK was bloody cold but not so dangerous where I lived.

Hope everyone in these heat savaged areas keep very safe
