Of Interest To Big W / Woolworths Shoppers
Buy something there for over $50, dont bother trying to exchange it or get refund anymore (unless it's faulty)...

However, following this policy introduction, Big W announced it was reviewing the policy following "feedback from a number of customers".
It is a good time though, to point out that not all shops offer that: "refund on change of mind purchases"

I was under the impression that shops don't have to offer "change of mind" options anyway.. back in Blighty most major shops give you a 28 day refund for change of mind purchases.. provided it is returned in the original state, ie, able to sell again..
I have always scratched my head why more retailers over here don't do it.. lets face it, when I can bring something back I am far more likely to buy lots.. and yep, a good few times I keep them anyway rather than go to the effort to return them despite me probably not wanting them.. if I can't return it, I usually don't bother buying in the first place..

I wouldnt say it's so much a goodwill gesture, it's more of a sign of good customer service.

Mind you I don't like shopping and it's a struggle to buy anything, let alone something I'm likely to take back again.

Why would you buy something and assume you may take it back? I'm scratching my head why you are more likely to buy lots with the idea of some of it going back because you don't want it

Have you never bought anything that was too big/small, didnt fit, didnt look good when you got it home, or for any reason realised it was a mistake buying it ?
Perhaps you are the foolish type that has a closet full of un-opened junk you'll never use ?

Quite common with shoes. Bottle shops do it for parties. It may not be required by law but lots of stores do it as a sign of good service and any retailer that sells itself on service does it. It is essential for my son as shops send his anxiety through the roof.
