Until a few years ago, I didn't realise there was a place called Quorn

Re: The Great Quorn Debate
I am one such person that is VIOLENTLY allergic to Quorn. And I otherwise have a constitution of iron. :curse: I guess it is banned because there is a relatively high % of people allergic to it (as these things go).
There is a myth that quorn is somehow related to mushrooms, but I read that in fact quorn is as genetically close to a mushroom as a human is to a fish. it is made of soil or soemthing apparantly.

Yes, it has a very famous hunt, and Charles stables some of his horses there.
I think that it was a form of fungus that can be easily processed and cultivated, so in some ways the rumours are partially right.
Is it banned here, or just not available here? I know that getting proper stilton is difficult, as they are not allowed to sell anything that is made from unpasteurised milk. Maybe it's something to do with the way that Quorn is processed?

Re: The Great Quorn Debate
I read somewhere that there is a possibility that Quorn may be available starting in 2010 - but that wasn't from the Quorn website so it may just be twaddle.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I miss Quorn, Sanitarium products just sound too much like female sanitary products and put me right off buying their stuff for my dinner!

Is TVP allowed on Slimming World? That's another meat/mince substitute isn't it? Not that I have any idea whether you're able to get that here either. I'll have a look in Woolies next time I'm there.

I had no idea what TVP was, I had to look it up ! But apparently you can get it in Woolies most likely in the health food section, but apparently it's cheaper to get it in Health food stores! No idea if it's allowed on Slimming World or not.

I've only had it in mince form, but it's good for making chilli and bolognaise. Nicer than Quorn IMO.

No slimming world here either!
OH is vege and has tried every product I can find. Depends if you want the 'meat' taste or not. He hates fake meat as he is vege through not liking meat. There are a few alternatives and I've seen the number increase quite a bit since we got here nearly 2 years ago.
However no idea what their slimming world value is because I haven't got membership. Perhaps we need to find someone with online slimming world access and give them the nutritional values and see what the syn values come out at..... anyone?
