Yeh it is amazing, watching the water entering the Darling River system and seeing the water levels rise exactly as predicted. At least people get some warning when its water coming downstream from elsewhere.

I feel sorry for Coonamble - third time this year they've been flooded. The country looks very green and beautiful for the first time in years.....but the rain just keeps a coming.

This is where we normally camp - well it's now 20 metres into the middle of the river!

(To be exact - we're normally by the tall bright green leafed gum tree just to the right of the stobey pole)

(Loxton, SA on the mighty Murray)

Scary stuff - just got a picture sent to me from work (so I cant post it here) - of our offices in the centre of Dubbo. The Macquarie River is usually 50 yards away and down a 15m bank..........its now coming in the back door. Unbelievable amount of water must have entered the system to make that happen...........and its all headed for the Murray/Darling system.......so looks like you wont be camping for a while Jo.

Well not there at any rate. It's wonderful to see all the floodplains (that aren't built on) flooded, already trees are greening up with new growth. So far it's not doing any damage from what we've heard but it's only a question of time - many of the locks are already completely under water.

As for the continuous rain - it'll be the end of many farmers around here this year! Who would've thought!

There are so many rivers and tributaries which are the lifeblood of the outback to suggest not building anywhere close to them because of flood risk would amount to having to build 100kms away. Through work today we received a flood risk alert that is valid for 6 weeks.........thats how long it will take the rain in QLD to work its way down into the North and Far West of NSW.

Flood, drought, locusts.........can't win! Part and parcel of outback life I'm afraid.
Local council here classes them as floodplains off the 100 yr flood and say you can't build on the bits liable to flooding except for buildings that are allowed to wash away.

No crocs! Lots of mozzies though! Camping is flexible and weatherproof!

Wouldn't say weatherproof for camping after being in middle of mini cyclone up Somerset dam the other year...but it's cheap and cheerful

Crikey - no mini cyclones down here! That would test out my guy ropes! I should've said - we don't mind camping in cold, hot, wet or dry!

In Katherine in July we got our camper trailer covered in bat poo - but a couple of weeks ago we finally managed to get it all washed off - 16 mm of rain, which felt like 16 inches = nice clean canvas again

Not a pleasant thought at all batmobile. Vinegar might of worked but then you would be high on fumes.

Forecasting more rain weekend and next week typical sunshine while I'm at work and rain when I'm not.
