I've recently been refunded £500 for gas and £195 for electicity from over paying here in the UK.

Southern Elec & Gas just sent me latter saying I had paid too much and will deposit the money into my account. They also said they would adjust the direct debit.

To be fair, he could probably hear the sound of several metal blocks being ground down in the background.

Energex reads your meter and bills your retailer of choice

Exactly! And Energex decide if you are a business or a residential residence.

As I've been told, the sparky back in 1988 filled in the forms wrong, so since then, this house has been considered a business,

And if you didn't notice, tough, your fault.

Edit: Though I must say Mrs JTL aint leaving it there. I can see them giving the money back just to shut her up!

I had a half hour chat with an EOQ investigator, very friendly man called Richard, this afternoon and should have a response from Origin by the end of the week. We've been warned though we might be getting maximum of 12 months' overcharge back. Even then there is no guarantee. Will let you all know how it goes, or I might have to look up the numbers for ACA or Today Tonight.

The funny thing is that the meter readings were right, but I just couldn't work out the bill !
Here's an excerpt:

Supply Period: 27 May 2009-25 Aug 2009
Bill Days 28
Old Rate 76 days at .1481 = $89.01
New Rate 15 days at .1713 = $0.00
See the two areas of error ?
The difference between the $89.01 and the $151 charge is GST, Ambulance and service charges... But even these are confusing...

Minimum payment 1 @ $0.1301 = $9.89
Minimum payment 1 @ $0.1505 = $2.26

If my next bill is just as confusing, I may just switch back to whoever I was with before...
