Re: do you believe?
Depends on what you mean by believe. And in what or who.
I've read alot on this, but I'll do my best not to rant on. If there is a God, as described in the Bible, then he is a petulant teenager. One minute he is really annoyed, the next kind and loving. He plays games with peoples minds, one minute telling them to sacrifice their child, then saying "only joking".
He has given us the faculties to search for truth through scientific evidence. Then he fails to provide any proof of his existence.
He has left us proof in the form of 2000 year old writings by the same people who believed that dragons existed, and drowning people would prove if they were evil or not.
He's decided not to offer any proof since scientific recordable verifiable equipment has been available.
Sorry for the serious answer, but no, I don't believe in a biblical god. Maybe a superior being that created this place, and just let it fester, but not in a sadistic biblical god who plays games with your mind, and lets millions die in Tsunamis and cyclones and now the China earthquake.
Generations will look back on us as the superstitious people who still believed in this nonsense.

I believe in some sort of superior being, (God if you like) but I don't believe in religion. Religion causes more bloody strife & wars than all the other causes of wars put together.
I don't see why you can't just believe there is something more without affiliating yourself with some sort of organisation which bangs on and brow beats you about how you should believe. That's religion.
It's a bugger filling in forms if you think the way I do as far as God is concerned. I'm not Agnostic. I'm not Atheist. I just believe in God but not religion. There doesn't seem to be a word for it. I've Googled it & there doesn't seem to be a definition.
Strangely ironic in a way...

Re: do you believe?
Deism is the belief that there is a God that created the physical universe but does not interfere with it. It is related to a religious philosophy and movement that derives the existence and nature of God from reason.
:
Deists believe that God's greatest gift to humanity is not religion, but the ability to reason.

Re: do you believe?
On the Wiki link you posted it says that most of the early Deists eventually evolved into sub religions. Ironic again!
It seems we can't help ourselves.
I personally can't see why, but there you go...

Re: do you believe?
Its pronounced Dye st, ryhmes with Heist. (as in a robbery)
do you think he'll fall for it?
If you liked his book 'The God Delusion' you'd probably like 'God is not great' by Christopher Hitchens. I've a feeling I should know who he is, but anyway, it comes from a different angle than Hawkins, not quite as foaming at the mouth aethiesm. But a good read.
I reckon I'm an agnostic deist. Because obviously I need a title for my beliefs before I set up my cult.
For Bix's benefit thats pronounced AGg No Stick Dye st

I always suspected you was one of them Agrostick Sunrisers.
Your card is marked mister.
And as for robbery I thought it was "haste" so you didn't get caught.
