Well no it is far removed from being cool. Australia has refused New Zealand's offer again, as it has done in previous years.

The buck falls back on Australia. Money goes so far as we have seen with the billions wasted to date.

Treating poor nations with the contemptuous attitude akin to still being colonial possessions doesn't appear to work either.

Of course many hundreds of millions more may well find itself in the pockets of corrupt local officials, in order to bide time, if nothing else, until the election is over.

The end result being at some stage Australia will need to address its dirty laundry and not attempt to farm it out to others.

Actually you're right, NZ is not a good idea as they would probably end up here anyway when they become NZ citizens

Your darling, 'better' country, Austria can take them - another 150 on top of the 90k that they've already taken won't make any difference. A much better solution

I doubt if Austria could be bought. Australia's responsibility. This nation should fulfil its obligation to those that qualify. Enough of this silly saga and ill treatment of people.

Hopefully Australia finds itself better prepared to deal with such crisis, if and when they reoccur. Band aid solutions and passing the buck are shown yet again not to work.

Only because you voted for the losing mob. Resentment again.

Whenever one votes in Australia either one of the losing mob will get in. The loser of course being Australia, which obviously doesn't resonate with you or your rusted on ideological take on life.

Scrapping knights and dames will delight the minority progressive faction, and he's probably saved Christopher Pyne's seat by throwing the submarine contract into South Australia's lap.

That's just off the top of my head.

Tax cuts are ruled out
In this budget he's giving tax cuts to the 18% of Australians who earn more than $80,000 a year, and he's lowering company tax—a neat double handout for the traditional Liberal interest groups.

I'll be very surprised if Turnbull doesn't score a Laws interview or two some time before the election.

More tax pain for smokers, as Morrison adopts Labor's tobacco excise:

Quote:
Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison will hand down a budget tonight that will help to define this year's lengthy election campaign.

The Government says it is a new, positive plan to create jobs and promote economic growth, but it is also adopting one of the Federal Opposition's biggest proposed tax increases.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann confirmed the budget would contain a 12.5 per cent annual increase in tobacco excise over the four years to 2020.
(Source).

Smart move, since this is probably the one tax hike they can get away with.

Of course this and others preceding it have little to do with traditional Liberal and policy. Menzies and his desire to help the 'little people' all relegated to the dustbin of history, as the present lot favour the big end of town and the top ten per cent.

Of course anything too hard or populist, like tackling the housing debt fiasco and tackling NG, a policy Turnbull himself knows to be a rort, and admitted as much a decade ago, a policy that the former Treasurer admitted was flawed as a parting message , but hey no problems another rate decline is in order, in an attempt to address deflation , brainwave.

Meanwhile the country continues on a wing and a prayer to continue hoping for the best, while politicians remain devoid of useful policy, power being the sole objective.

What could possibly go wrong?

All fine over hear in the east. Along with the "little person" sounds like they must be neglecting the west, and the first home buyer.

Can't please all minorities I guess.

Actually can't please many I guess, unless speculators keeping the rest of the population at bay, or heavily indebted, especially in the housing market. Never mind the West.

I fail to understand how the Lib's get away with using such a name, being anything but, whose ideals were quite sometime ago hijacked by the extremists within the party, taking it in quite another direction, far removed from liberal ideals.

Looks like a very cautious budget, just tinkering at the edges of the economy without doing anything bold or innovative. A few handouts to companies and the top 20% earners, but no spare change in the kitty for middle income earners.

Will it be enough to win re-election?

Actually the keynote would probably be the outright lying.

When even the murdoch press are pointing out some of the slight of hand and baldface bull, you know you aren't going to get to the election unscathed.
