Yes it is a good area.
Good schools, and a good private school also. Friends girls go there.

Traffic onto the Bruce always gets backed up at Bracken Ridge in mornings.

Good easy access to shops, town, and northern and southern suburbs

Hi
Been in Bracken Ridge since May this year. The area has most things you want, supermarket, post office, doctors etc and a mix of housing (some newer and some older areas). It's not the 'most prestigious' area, but it's not the worst either! Good road and rail links into the city. My OH drives in and it takes about 30 mins at 6.30am...The motorway can get busy but nothing like the M25!

My kids go to the private school, which is St Pauls in Bald Hills. Fees for primary age are about $6400 for next year, and of course that doesn't include uniform and book list. But we have been very pleased. My kids are getting opportunities and access to specialist teachers and facilities that they wouldn't in the UK. I looked around the state schools when we first arrived as we didn't expect to send them to a private school. I wasn't that impressed with the 2 in Bracken Ridge. Bald Hills State would be my choice or there is St Joseph's which is Catholic.
Hope that helps.

Fees:

Fees and Levies
FEE STRUCTURE - 2007

Our college structures Fees and Levies to allow a variety of payment options. The aim is to give parents more predictability in their financial commitment to the college and to allow them to budget over four terms, ten months or twenty fortnights - whichever is more appropriate for the family's finances. This system has worked well and will be continued in 2007.

For 2007 the fee structure will be as follows:

1. FEES SET BY BRISBANE CATHOLIC EDUCATION:

· TUITION FEE:

One Child $1580 p.a
Family Fee $2632 p.a.
Senior Surcharge $ 120 p.a.

· COMPULSORY BUILDING FUND:

$480 PER ANNUM PER FAMILY

2. LEVIES SET BY ST JOHN FISHER COLLEGE:

· Junior levy: $590 per annum per student
· Senior Levy: $650 per annum per student

These levies cover all subject costs, excursions, photocopying, transport and entrance costs to all Catholic Girl's Secondary Schools Sports Association carnivals, forum costs, school ID card, student planner, student record book and school annual. Any activity not covered by these levies is entirely voluntary.

· P & F LEVY: $110 per annum per family

This levy takes the place of continuous fundraising by the P & F and is allocated to improvements around the school. Projects funded by the P & F include landscaping of the grounds, contributing to the upgrading of the college's computer facilities and to the overall resources available to students.

· CAMP/RETREAT LEVY: Grade 8 $180 Grade 11 $200 Grade 12 $140 per annum

This applies only to Years 8, 11 and 12 students. Year 8 attend an Orientation Camp early in the year, Year 11 undertake a Leadership Camp and Year 12 are involved in their retreat in September.

Notice of Termination: The College requires one term’s notice (in writing) of termination of enrolment. Term fees and levies will apply if adequate notice of intended termination is not provided.

Early Payment Discount: The College offers a $60.00 discount for yearly fees, and a $10.00 discount for term fees paid in advance.

Fees and levies will continue to be billed in four x one term instalments. However, parents may wish to break them down into smaller portions for ease of budgeting.

Considered moving there after we left our last place, but the lack of accessability from the house we looked at to the trains, and the onfrequency or lack of Brisbane buses for the OH to fit in with work times, made us choose to remain in the Aspley area. Add to the fact that we would have to leave alot earlier in the mornings for me to drive to work and still get there in time...

Renting at the moment, $300/week, 3 brm, stones through from the Homemaker centre. To buy it is gettng abit pricey. The house next to the one we were in sold recently for $480k, and it was nothing special, considering the one we were renting was bought about four years before for about $240k and was bigger inside/bigger block.

As they are adjoining suburbs, you wouldn't save very much in travel, maybe a couple of minutes.
