Best lunch suggestions melbourne
Looking for something new for about 12 people, some from interstate for a small birthday do.
Must be comfy, bit of atmosphere, able to sit around for an hour or so, and reasonable price, so nobody feels uncomfortable.
CBD, or 4/5 stops in any direction from CBD OK.
Ethnic food welcome, spicy fine, nothing pretentious preferably.

What about one of the great steakhouses in the city like Rare or Squires Loft or the Meat and Wine Co?

Agreed Squires Loft is good, there are also many pubs that are worth a visit. The Mitre in Bank Place is one of the oldest pubs in Melbourne, there is a steakhouse upstairs too. The European Bier café in Exhibition St is a large pub over 3 or 4 floors that I have enjoyed visiting on a few occasions. I've heard the Bull & Bear is good though I have never eaten there. I used to like the Duke Of Kent in Latrobe St but have not been there since it was renovated recently. The Roya Melbourne Hotel at the west end of Bourke St is an interesting place, it's set inside an old police building and some of the dining tables are inside the cells.

We ended up in the Irish Times, little collins.
Great atmosphere, and so cosy as it was blustery and freezing that night.
The reasonable thing went out the window, a steak is about $45/50 and a beer or drink about 10/15 each. Bottle of red $45 upwards.
But these are hardly amazing prices for melb.
They do a deal though early week like a beer and burger or schnitzel type food for $20 so if you just want the atmosphere its a good place.
