That's not the point though, its more a principle thing for me really. Why him, not loads of other figures? Why a singer, not someone who laid down their life, for instance?

I think it's more worthwhile than the $15k that was spent on gifts from the Queen to Australian dignitaries last year - it's a small amount and it will be lovely for his family to see him honoured in that way before they too drop off the perch.

He was a household name for more than 50 years, he toured small country towns and played small gigs for all his fans even when he was at the peak of his success, the average Australian related to him in many ways and loved him dearly.

I cant say I know anyone who would own up to liking him, he was just an old bloke who couldn't sing.
