My neighbour managed to extract something like $6m from the Federal taxpayer to (partially) fund an extension to the local Bradman museum.
Quite a lot to be able to look at a grubby cap and bat together with some fading photos - so a $30k statue seems good value.
Can't believe I wrote that...............

Case being of course is that Australia has few national icons of note and as such much search them out where ever possible.
Slim Dusty had a long innings of many decades being Australia's top folk singer. One of his most famous songs being The Pub with No Beer, which was a number one I believe back in 60.
He was also quite liked by a lot of Aboriginal folk who are heavily into that music.
All said and done probably not unreasonable to expect a statue to someone who was so big in the music industry.
Doesn't Fremantle have a Scott statue(ACDC)? Slim Dusty would have had a far wider/diverse audiance during his prime.......
Saying that Australia badly needs improved infrastructure as well....If things don't get a move on soon thee a good chance they won't as the money won't be there in coming years.....

$30k is not enough - Slim was an Australian legend, we all grew up on his music and my daughter and I cried our eyes out watching his funeral on the ABC (she actually thought he was related after meeting him at one of his last gigs). And another to ad to Moneypennys "Waltzing Matilda" is "Matilda No More"
