Re: Getting a job in Barbados
Welcome Bernd:
See you in Barbados soon. I will keep two seats warm (or should they be cold) in the Carib for you and Berlinda. Berlinda, I will reply to your message about the job interview later this evening when I have more time.

I wish you good luck, but I think that it is impossible to get a work within a few days after your arrival. The company which would employ you would have to obtain a work permit for you (if you are a non-national or not a CARICOM-citizen), and what I heard from friends this can take up to 6 months......So I recommend you to change your plans regarding work, this take much time and planning in advance. Also, if you don´t have a profession which is needed on the island (something special) it is near to impossible to get a work permit. I am not the specialist in this topic, maybe bajanboy can help you more.
Anyways, try to research for companies on the island as good as you can and then send them your resume.

Thanks for the advice, i have been researching for weeks about different companies and how to go about getting a job over there, i have sent my resume to what feels like every company on the island and i am getting responses but they are saying either contact me closer to the time of arrival or contact us when you get here. Ideally i would like to have at least a few interviews set up for when i arrive. Do you know of any companies who employ non nationals who i could contact?
Thanks

ok since you go in September, its quite early to arrange appointments, to me it was told the same about contacting again closer to arrival.
Which job are you looking at, do you have an idea if your working field is in need of employees? I think you won´t be able to avoid going there for a short time and then after arrival call these companies and ask for an appointment. Probably you should not depend on getting work immediately.....I think this is not realistic. If you work on your tourist visa this is illegal and if they get to know this you will lose all your chances to be able to work on the island on a regular work permit..............so this is not recommended...Better go there for 2-3 weeks, visit the companies, see if they are interested and then plan further That´s the best I can tell you.
Regarding the companies, I think it will be better to try with bigger companies, since the work permit cost around BD$ 6.000,- and this is paid by the future employer, so you see that only if they really need and want you (because you have special skills and experiences they don´t find on the island), they will go through all this.

Re: Getting a job in Barbados
Hi Everyone
I came across your forum a few weeks ago and have found it really helpful and informative. I don't know what took me so long to join formally!
I'm currently living in the UK and have been thinking seriously about working in Barbados. I'm a researcher (worked in both market research and social research) having formerly been an analyst/statistician and I wondered if anybody could tell me what companies in Barbados would make use of my skills, who I should approach in my search for jobs, where would I find vacancies listed?
Any help and advice much appreciated!

Good morning Shaz,
welcome here!! Unfortunately I can´t help you with your question, but maybe you should look at the Yellow Pages online first. Hopefully anybody in here can help you! Wish you good luck and hope to see you soon in Barbados!!

Thanks Belinda. I will start looking in the online Yellow Pages.
If anyone else knows of any companies or has contacts who would be intersted in employing an experienced market/social researcher/analyst please drop me a line!

Re: Getting a job in Barbados
Well, I started looking at this thread as a good source of information and fact.....some winding roads throughout, so I thought I'd go straight to the end and post some idea's for people to work on the Island.
I am going over this Saturday for 4 weeks, to get Married and my Daughter Baptised. My aim is to live and work on Barbados as with many of the hopefuls, I have been to the Island numerous times and every time I walk onto Grantly Adams tarmac, I feel like I have come 'home'.
Anyway, I sent my CV and cover mail to a few Companies I searched for from an 'old' Yellow pages I brought home from one of trips, and luckily I have had a couple of replies setting up informal meetings. Nothing certain nor promised, but by God it has got me excited just at the possibilities.
I guess my advice is keep plugging away and try any avenues that you can think of.
Regarding the strict laws of immigration to ensure Bajan are given 1st chance for jobs, although this may withhold my chance of working and living on the Island, you have got to applaud the stance taken. One I wish the UK had taken a long time ago........
Good luck all, oh, and I guess I'll see some at the party on the 21st?? kwill105 from Trip advisor!
