Question Making new friends - for blokes (Perth)

Ok, here's a theory that might prove controversial... we've been over in Perth just over four years now (citizenship approved!). When we came over, like many couples, we put effort into making friends and have some good friendships with other couples. But my theory is that it's often wives who tend to form the friendships (especially where there are younger children), and blokes don't do so well at it.

So my question would be, to blokes out there: have you made your own friends? If so, how did you approach that?

From an Australian perspective, apart from the normal ways of making friends, such as through work, expats meetup/functions, sport etc, if there is some sort of meetup groups like there is in Brisbane or Gold Coast. You could join either by yourself, or as a couple or create your own group and post it on the site www.meetup.com

I'm not saying this is the answer, but I have meet quite a few different people with similar interests recently.

I am Australian female however currently reside in the UK with my male British Partner. We lived in Australia together for 10 months and he also found it very hard to make friends? I always put it down to him being from a small village and that he is a naturally shy person.

I guess being shy doesn't help in the matter louie, but it is a very common complaint with folk in Australia.

I suspect Aussies are a little shy themselves. It does tend to be difficult to get beyond a certain point. A lot are not great talkers more doers I guess.
This is fine in itself but if a person is more the thinking conversational type Australia may prove a tough nut to crack in friendship stakes.
