Job Title: Nursing Director Critical Care Perioperative Services and Patient Flow
State: Northern Territory
Designation: Nurse 7
Salary Package: Nurse 7 - Remuneration Package $137,977 - $142,870 (including salary $120,323 - $124,636)
Work Unit: Nursing and Midwifery Services.

Responsible To: Executive Director of Nursing
Primary Objective:
Provide expert leadership and management within an assigned division of Nursing and Midwifery that reflects contemporary and quality service delivery within a collaborative, patient centred, outcomes focused and risk management framework.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical and corporate leadership and management pertaining to an assigned division including strategic and business planning to identify and develop options for implementation in line within organisational priorities.
2. Oversight the delivery of contemporary models of nursing/midwifery care, that reflects best practice, is patient centred, culturally sensitive and within the organisations risk, quality and safety framework.
3. Use appropriate information and information systems to formulate reports on and manage clinical activity within budgetary constraints and undertake workforce planning and development.
4. Manage all aspects of human, material, resource and financial management within agreed budgets and service requirements.
5. Manage performance of staff within delegation, policy and legislative requirements.
6. Actively contribute and participate in strategies to ensure recruitment, retention and succession planning for the nursing/midwifery workforce.
7. In collaboration design, develop and implement innovative standards relating to improving divisional and organisational performance.
8. Actively contribute and participate in the development of strategies and policies, procedures and guidelines for nursing and midwifery patient care and related service delivery issues.
9. Actively contribute and participate in developing and maintaining a work based culture that promotes and supports education, learning, research and practise/workforce development.
10. Ensure that risk mitigation strategies are employed to manage organisational, Workplace Health and Safety issues.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
1. Hold or eligible for General Nurse Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority including a current annual practising certificate and postgraduate management qualification or equivalent.
2. Demonstrated substantial and recent experience as a senior nurse/midwife manager in an acute care service.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing and managing a budget for a service.
4. Demonstrated experience and commitment to quality improvement, contemporary patient safety and risk management frameworks, research and education.
5. An ability to develop, implement and evaluate strategic and operational plans including workforce planning.
6. Demonstrated high-level communication (verbal and written), leadership and interpersonal skills, with an ability to resolve conflict, manage change, negotiate appropriate outcomes and develop practical innovative solutions to issues.
7. An ability to lead and manage a team, work in partnership and collaboration and manage multifaceted complex issues within required time lines.
8. Previous substantial experience in managing human resources and a sound knowledge of associated legislative requirements, procedures and practices including those associated with Equal Employment Opportunity, Workplace Health and Safety and Information Technology.
9. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable :
1. Demonstrated experience working with computer software applications; including word processing, spreadsheets and computerised rosters.
Further Information:
Department of Health has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises, facilities or vehicle nor whilst working off-site. The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check.
