Working in Perth (Fibre Optics & Copper)
Hi All,
I have recently just gone through a successful TRA process as a communications linesperson 4316-13 (ASCO) / 342413 (ANZCO).
We are a family of 4 two kids (boys 3 & 4 yrs)
As I am 5 points short of 120, my option would be the 176 visa with state sponsorship. Two states are currently offering sponsorship for these trades WA & VIC.
I have been looking for work in my field on the internet and I don't seem to be having any luck.
I also have no idea what the salary's would be like.
I specialise in fibre optic (Splicing & Testing) I also have 10 years experience in copper jointing.
Could anybody please point me in the right direction with regards where I can find work & which state people think I should go for.
Thank You
Craig

I reckon that either would be good for these trades. NBN and Telstra are both headquartered in Melbourne but for field work this is fairly irrelevant.
You might also like to try the regional rail operators. Victrack in Melbourne has a large state wide fibre network for instance.

Check if you would need a cablers licence to work in Australia - I suspect you would since you need one here just to make a CAT5 patch lead up from cable and plugs - yet more $$$ and time.

Aren't they predicting a big shortage of communications/lines people across Australia once the NBN ramps up?

I work for a company called E-Wire Connection point. We have self employed contractors who carry out the fibre optic underground connections for estates across WA. They have a website www.e-wire.net.au if you want to have a browse through. Maybe send them an email or CV to 17 Millrose Dr, Malaga. WA. Hope this helps? Good Luck
