Re: who is sick of Australia?
I like Canberra. For weekend visits........ Dont think I cold live there though to much weather extremes.
I am truely amazed how some people cant fit in and how some people love it. Its really weird to me. I love Australia I wouldnt move back but I also know its not for everyone and I think a lot of it has to do with what you had back in the UK, how much you saw family and how your social life was. We lived 100 miles from family so didnt see them as often as I would have liked. We didnt really go out much we are real home bods. Here we have heaps of family who we see regularly (even though they are cousins), we go out more (maybe thats because kids are older too) and we feel the same here as we did in the UK only we have more.

Well.....this is a friendly thread.
I guess the original poster has had enough - fair enough.
I posted my 2 1/2 year update in the update forum and explained why we left Oz to go back to the UK........the reasons the OP stated are all there as explanations for me aswell.
Now..........I have other stories.......
My brother in law and his family immigrated to Townsville..........last about 7 months.
A friend and his family immigrated to Perth.....lasted about a year.
These two families and ours are all different yet none of us felt like we were at home or could settle.........we did last the longest. No amount of scantily clad beach babes, cold beer nor sunshine could replace the fabric of what is really important to us........friends, family, culture, history, a sense of purpose and decent well paid jobs for our particular careers that are valued by the employers for what they are........highly skilled.
There's no sense trying to disagree with the OP or prove him wrong.......we are all different and have different views on what is important to us.
I think this thread and a few others are right in trying to point out a few of the pitfalls that can happen if you really don't take this moving to the other side of the world and back a few decades seriously. The +ve and -ve points just need to be made a bit more succinctly.
Even though the USA, UK and mainland Europe is in financial turmoil (which will spread as of today...Asia is sinking.....lookout Babcock & Brown and Macquarie Bank)..........I still believe that the UK and Europe has a strength of purpose and belief, experience and dedication to get through this.
If the consumers of the northern hemisphere are in for a rough ride, China and India better start scaling back their output......and the effects of that will eventually hit Asia and Australia if not already. So, even though there is some major shite affecting the UK economy and will affect everyone.....and the weekend it pissed down.........Australia doesn't hold enough attraction to send me back there...at least not yet........the ice in the mornings has not yet begun !
OK......economics over. Point is, Oz ain't for everyone....this forum should try and educate those as much as poss about success stories and those that return I think.
Other than that, I dunno..........I am glad that AC/DC tour the US soon and I think will then come to Europe...........hoo flippin ray.
