e.g.
001144 208 (not 0208) then the number
thats from perth but i think its the same

That list may be out of date. Australia has only 4 area codes now:
02: NSW & ACT
03: Vic & Tas
07: QLD
08: SA, WA and NT
Code borders do not exactly coincide with state borders: Broken Hill NSW has an 08 code, for example, but it's a general guide.
Local numbers are 8 digits. So for dialling from Sydney to Canberra or Newcastle, for example, you don't dial an area code, just the 8 digit number. You still pay long distance rates.
Mobile numbers begin with 04. One difference from the UK is that you do not need to dial the area code when calling from your mobile if the number is on the same area code as where you are located.

If you are calling a UK mobile that begins 07 +8 digits then from Australia you call 0011-44-7 and 8 digits (ie drop the 0 in front of the 7).
Bear in mind that it may be a lot more expensive to call a UK mobile from Australia compared to a UK landline.
