Why not put this to good advantage?
The airfares go through the roof in December except for 2 days, christmas eve and new years eve.
Arriving here early December you will, as you have said, not really know what to do with yourself, and as other people have pointed out, it wont feel like Christmas anyway, so save yourself a truckload of cash.
We flew out 31 Dec 2001, and saved about 200 quid per ticket.
Chances are your little ones will be blown away about the excitement of travelling anyway, so they wouldnt feel too disappointed, and you can use the money you save to get them there first aussie pressies!
