Yep. Unfortunately, many of your fellow Brits have massive chips on their shoulders and can give but not take - and a large percentage of those are on BE

Aussies hate pomposity above all else, a dislike I've taken on board since living here. I personally feel that's the most likely cause of any negativity from an Australian.... As it seems an inherent part of certain people from the UK's make up. I cringe when I witness it on my visits to the UK. Your average Aus will be right onto that as they expect this behaviour from UK migrants.

You dont get many pompous Aussies.

What's worse is the average Pompous Brit seems to confuse losing their pomposity as dumbing down, such is the inherent nature of their affliction.

I should have guessed that the pom with the biggest chip would pop up sooner or later

Whereas I find that the people I know in Australia are pretty much the same as the people I knew in the UK - where in fact, and it might surprise the board, where there is a time and a place for everything. I know pompous Australians who balance that pomposity with a friendlier and lighter streak - like the more confident Brits I knew. I call it social skills - which transport across the US, Europe and Australia. There is a tendency on BE to rely on cliches - and to second-guess the national psyche - how about just get on with it!

The social skills needed in the UK apply in Australia. We can all act like arses - as long as we don't do it all the time...

I reckon the real problem for a lot of Brits, especially from the regions, is when they come across as sarcastic or insular. I've been in the UK and had fellow Brits put offside by someone like that. There's a distinct breed of Brit who is nowhere as internationally mobile as they think they are - and my suspicion is that the people who suffer the most down under and blame Australians need to look at themselves first. If the issue is genuinely with Australians - then choose friends wisely..and proceed accordingly..! Many Brits move from the regions to another region and then gain nothing. Out of one life to another...

I have travelled and lived in a lot of countries and really most people are the same, I have met Americans that are arrogant and others that are really friendly, Europeans that can be rude and also very polite, in Africa some come across as aggressive and others will "bend over backwards to help you". In Asia you can find people who will invite a stranger into their homes and others would not even smile at you. Its the same with the Australians and the British there are good and bad people. If anyone on this thread believe that Australians are not any different from others in this regard then they are slightly delusional.

Enough of that nonsense. We only deal with sweeping generalisations on here thank you very much.
