Welder/Fabricator opportunites
I have a PEO Level 2 and a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technology. Both specialising in welding and fabrication.
Having looked online at the skilled occupations list there is a few on there which I would fall in to:
Sheetmetal Trades Worker
Metal Fabricator
Pressure Welder
Welder (First Class)
Fitter (General)
Fitter and Turner
Fitter-Welder
Metal Machinist (First Class)
Realistically what are the career opportunities within this field in Australia?

For sure there is demand for these jobs, but its often a very up and down demand, depending on what the mines are doing.
As these are quite new style qualifications, I am guessing that you might be quite young. Would a working holiday visa be an easier/better option for you. It would allow you to see the country and find out more about the work situation without making the full commitment yet.

Re: Welder/Fabricator opportunites
Thanks for the reply.
I am 26. My plan is to wait for a year while me and my partner save up, plus I can carry on with college for a year and get some more experience. Then get a year working visa like you have suggested.
Do you think I would benefit from doing the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (Fab/weld)? This is a 2 year course but I could wait the extra year if it would help me get a better position in Aus
