Seriously considering to make the jump and move the family to perth, But as you can imagine very nervous. I would be grateful for any info on jobs, wages and also if mechanics are needed?
I am a bmw mechanic, but also work on merc and vag and have been for the past 12 years.

Yes, mechanics are needed in Perth.
A very good and long established company I know of have been to the UK again to recruit.
I got here as a mechanic with this company in January's 2005.

My advise will be to do plenty of research regarding the cost of living, price of rental homes, cost to buy a house etc.

Do you have a visa? The company I came here with will sponsor you (subject to skills etc) pay for you medical cost, visa costs, and pay for your air ticket (not your family though).
