Re: Unemployed
If you truly have an in demand skill then you will be ok despite the current situation. Trouble seems to be that DIAC are several years behind the job market

It can be demotivating to send off application after application but your turn has got to come sometime. Keep plodding away guys. I know it's an old cliche but the more applications you put in, the more chance you have. You've got to be in it to win it as they say.
I wish everyone luck as I know how hard it can be

Re: Unemployed
I have to say the recruitment process itself seems to be SLOW I had an interview at the start of Feb and had all but given up hope when two weeks ago I was told I'd made it through to the next stage...two weeks later I've still not heard a thing! Another job I'm interested in has been choosing which candidates to call for interview for three weeks now....I guess I'm saying hang in there you could still be in the running and not realise it! I wish things could speed up a bit and I hope you are all working soon...before day time TV drives us all crazy lol!!!
I feel the best way to go is to get a temp job (if you can), then at least you can start working and networking quickly.

My OH has been applying for loads of jobs back in Aus since before xmas, we are still thinking shall we just take the plunge and come back this year? He's had quite a lot of interest but only a couple of good interviews, we are thinking maybe cos we are back here. Do you think we would be mad to just come back? (Hes specializes in building sub stations).. So unsettling

Re: Unemployed
I landed here mid october had my electricians license sorted by the end of october and not a sniff at any work yet, my partner also has no work we have 2 kids and never thought we would have to budget for such a long period of unemployment. Probably got enough funds for another 6 weeks and then not really sure what we shall do, possibly sell the car to pay for flights back to UK. i cant even get a job pushing the trolleys round coles as they know as soon as a job in your field comes your way youre off!! I have applied for every suitable job, rang countless companies and driven round for days calling in on sites and still nothing.
Talk about living the dream, its turning into a nightmare.

we are feeling exactly the same as you, hubby driving round all sites etc and nothing trouble is he cant even get licensed not even a piggin provisional, he works in air con plumbing and fits "Installs, maintains and repairs piping, ducting and equipment for heating, cooling and ventilation of buildings or vessels"
despite this job being taught on plumbing course here the plumbers board dont issue licenses for this job
I would go back tomorrow this is definitely turning into a nightmare.
we have nowhere else to turn

Re: Unemployed

Re: Unemployed
not exactly told, but my hubby did get a job in a trade he has being doing for 25 years within 1/2 hour there was a bit of a discussion about some bloke who had been moved to accommodate my OH (not sacked) things got a bit confrontational and within the hour hubby was back at home being told he was not up to the job
absolute bollox he worked for some of the biggest international companies in the world and he wasnt up to standard for a small workshop in cairns.
Although not prove something was said in that office and he lost his job.
This week they are advertising again this time stating Australian qualified :curse: a must.

The ones where he phoned lost interest as soon as they heard the Scots accent. He has over 25 years experience but unfortunately no local knowledge.
Wishing you the best of luck!
We're only managing to survive as I am working. I have a government position where I have to give 200% to be taken half seriously.

Re: Unemployed
Sorry to hear similar stories I hope we are all working soon lets remember giving up everything you know (good jobs, your own house, close family and friends) takes strength of character, good planning and a lot of bravery and motivation all good attributes an employer should value.

Re: Unemployed
Well a bit of good news is that I had an interview today! I'm not sure if I'll get an offer but it's a start.
