I don't get this can't buy anything for $400k in Perth. Look down Rockingham/Waikiki way, there are heaps of nice places for $400K.

My point was that Perth was always the best option (ie. mortgage free living) for alot of migrants who also wanted to take advantage of Perth's legendary lifestyle balance.
Prices have gone up alot. Faster than in other cities. It ain't 2003 and many migrants will be reconsidering.

Been in Perth for just over 10 years. Don't love it, don't hate it, but each visit to the UK reaffirms for me that this will never be 'home'.

Of course not. My point is that all other things being equal, then you'd rather have a larger property. Terraces are not great - listening to your neighbours rowing at all hours, or hearing the toilet getting flushed through the night, their music banging through the wall, etc. Better if you can to get a decent place with some privacy.

Houses are generally noisey here with timber floors being very popular and with windows open all day and night it isnt quite as quiet as people may think in some of the 'burbs'.

It is quite the opposite here, all solid concrete floors and double brick construction. You don't even know your neighbours are there unless they are in their pools or entertaining in their gardens.
