Hi There,
I gather tax rates are high for Australians...are they therefore EVEN higher for us English people who are defactos travelling to Australia to work?

At the moment I live in the UK with my GF who is from the UK, but is an Australian citizen by birth.
So probably we will opt for De Facto/spouse as we have lived together now for a few years?

Then you will be taxed the same as any other Australian resident

check with an accountant. if you're a temp resident it may well classify you as an australian resident for tax purposes. i may well be wrong but the figure's around 25%

If you live in Australia and intend to reside here permanently, then you are resident for tax purposes.

How long have you lived together and have you got any children?

And have you looked at skilled visas?

I was on a temp spouse visa and I can assure you they count you as an Aussie resident. If they don't, contact the ATO and get it changed.
