Sydney is a damn expensive city!
Hey
I moved to Sydney from the UK four years ago, but I still get a level of fustration of how inflated basic items like trainers are to purchase here.
Back in the UK I could get a suitcase full of clothes from Primark for as little as 100.00 UK pound. Here in Sydney I'd be lucky to buy a skirt for this.
I used to think nothing of buying the odd thing every day in the UK, now I really only go shopping once a month. We are sucked dry on TAX
Are other struggling to buy items that they used to love?
Dresses
Jeans
Trainers
Electric Items
Watches.
Would love a good discussion if nothing else. Recommendations of websites you use to buy things from over seas. Items that you know are just so expensive its ridiculous!

You want to buy a suitcase full of stuff for 100 pounds in Sydney?
There are plenty of Asian clothes shops under Wynyard station where you can buy super cheap, sweat-shop produced clothing for next to nothing which will probably be similar to Primark quality.
Go for it..

Some are, some aren't. Prices here for computers, TVs, some cameras etc are as competitive as anywhere except the US. Electrical appliances can be expensive - Dyson for example. Saying that, if you buy from Amazon in Europe, they deduct the VAT and stuff can be cheaper shipped here than in Europe - even with their free shipping.

1. Move back to the UK which is seeing considerable inflation but still way cheaper than Sydney.
2. Live with it and just accept its part of the deal.

Shop online. Or use the high Aussie dollar for a good holiday to the USA and do shopping there.

Re: Sydney is a damn expensive city!
and most UK clothes shops ship over here- Next does free shipping, plus companies like White Stuff, tesco deduct vat, others like M&S and fatface just sell you the same price as UK plus shipping.
We were in UK between 2010-2012 and I could not believe the passion for Primark. It is rubbish...fine for babies who grow out of things before they fall apart, but for anything else? No thanks

Went to Myer once and was horrified at the price tag of a simple work jacket. I know I'm earning ozzie dollars so can afford to shop locally but still don't want to be ripped off when you can get the same thing for half the price.

And, I'm not into discount shops like the $2 shop here but I did have a look in Pound Land in the UK - so many good brands of toiletries and cosmetics for a quid! I have to restrain myself from filling my suitcase with them.
