I am sorry to put a dampner on things for you, but please don't put your family through the move until you can offer them security. Also the payment from centrelink is not instant so how will you survive till they sort the paperwork out? Please sit and work out your figures
This is good advice,,,you dont realise the initial costs until you actually get over there!

However the OP didnt need critisism, just a simple yes he could survive or no he couldnt,, certain replies put ppl off posting questions on this forum IMO. what seems a silly qustion to one person is a serious question to another!

Maybe a troll, however could be genuine as many families come out claim the lot from centerlink and live on it for months before finding work, maybe because they cant find work or they simply want a paid holiday.

However most have substantial savings from UK to supplement the bills/lifestyle and probably end up paying most of it back once they get a job, or ATO finds out about the interest on their savings.

Well he could probably survive out in the bush where my DS lives - if he could find some land for a peanut rent - might even find a shack to rent. Live in a tent, shoot their own roos for food, chop wood for fuel/heating water, dig hole in the back yard - yup, it could, conceivably, be done but the chances of finding a job out there would be impossible.

Going back to the original question...

Isn't Family Tax Benefit a reduction in the tax you pay because you have a family? It's not a regular payment that you receive (like the dole) - it's just an increased take-home pay amount.

So if you don't pay any tax (because you don't have a job) then how can you get this benefit?

I accept that some sort of rental assistance may be payable by Centrelink but I reckon that's all the OP will get until he gets a job.
