Default Super Funds

How do you even start to choose which super fund to join? I am bamboozled.

Take your pick. Similar decision as choosing a pension provider in UK.

I'm with ING but moving to VicSuper for a number of reasons - non-profit, built-in life cover, disability cover (TPD & TTD), but mostly because they have a cash fund available.

Employers can have a default Super if you do not specify your own.

Read this ASIC (Australian Securities and Investment Commission) site for FAQ's and information:
www.fido.gov.au-go to "About Financial Products" and click on "Superannuation".

Your employer may have a preferred super fund which you can just go along with the flow and join. Otherwise, stick a pin in a list and hope for the best. I'm with MLC, seems to be doing as well as any with the downturn in the market - you can generally choose your risk level within any fund.
