Dont know Kangaroo point but we were put up in Fortitude Valley. 10 mins walk from the centre of Brisbane. It is close to nightlife and restaurants, chinatown on the doorstep. Train station on the doorstep and all the car hire companies are based there.
Both suburbs are seperated by the story bridge so either side of the river.
Hope this might help

I've been offered Kangaroo Point too - it looks nice!
When are you going? If I get there before you I'll let ya know what it's like

Kangaroo point in quieter, but easy to get the ferry across to the CBD. You also get great views of the river and Brisbane. The Story Apts look very stylish - http://www.storyapartments.com.au/

although i prefer kangaroo point those apartments are on the busy main road so if you get a low level you will have a lot of noise. the tunnel works are also in full swing on that stretch so congestion is pretty bad as well although if catching the ferry not so much a problem.
there are lots of apartments in kangaroo point though so plenty of quieter options.

agreed, there are lots of nicer places to stay in kangaroo point. What is the name of the apartments that are being offered to you in fortitude valley?
Kangaroo pt and fortitude valley are both great places, but exactly where you are staying does make a lot of difference...dugongs is right about the road noise and there isn't really much within walking distance of that apartment.

where will your office be?
I'd go for the valley ones if I were you. There's a good indian restaurant underneath you. Lots of bars and restaurants within a 5min walk too. Bottle shop 100m away. Cinema at James street is 5mins walk. Plus, you are only a 20-25min walk from the city centre...you couldn't walk to the city from the story apartments.
Downsides are that these apartments are on a busy road too (brunswick street) but it isn't as busy as shafston avenue. Plus, the Valley has lots of bars and nightclubs and gets very busy / noisy on friday and Saturday nights.
