Sending you some much earned Karma for that amazing post!!! I've been worried sick as the shippers are coming to us on Tuesday and have a 20ft container booked. Crown estimated over the 20ft (actually said that ideally we needed a 30ft - but they didn't do them) but we decided to go with it anyway. We don't have anywhere near the amount of large furniture items you have so why the hell did they estimate so much?

This is our list:

King size bed
3 sets bedroom drawers
3pce suite & footstool
small nest of tables
bureau
Large TV
DVD
Video
3 Large mirrors
dining table and 6 chairs
tv cabinet
portable tv
3 bedside cabinets
sora bed
computer table and chairs
Computer/printer/monitor
washing machine
small tumble dryer
dishwasher
hall table
1 adult bike
1 childrens bike
pots
ovenware
toys/games
clothes
Linen/towels
Garden table/4 chairs & parasol
2 large tool chests
CDs/DVDs
Lots of books
Elliptical trainer (unused )
welder/compressor

Does anyone think this is excessive?

This one post has probably saved us from binning or giving away a load of stuff as you have more than us unbeleivably,

We have a proper pub sized pool table anyone ever taken one of those?

Thanks

Great thread - can't believe you managed to squeeze all that stuff in!!! Dont think we'll need a complete container as we dont have half that amount of stuff - will have to investigate the whole 'part of a container' thing.

When are you off? Wishing you all the best in your new life.

Not at all - your list is kind of similar to ours to be honest and I'm definately optimistic that it'll all fit in thanks to this post.

The problem being we don't have the joy of the container rolling up to the house to be packed like you lucky guys, so we've given up the idea of being ripped off, so we are selling up and bringing our suitcases! Thanks again for sharing all of your day, just an added note, are you intending on doing much skiing
Re~: skiing...........have not been for 10 years but hope to go in August time....ski resort is 4 hour drive from where we will be.......might not be Chamonix but if it's a slope with snow on that'll do !

I think most companies will do shared containers. We shipped with Excess Baggage in a shared 20ft container. Some of them separate the consignments by putting them in crates, and then the crates in the container. I don't think Excess did this though - we had a box missing when everything turned up and it has been found in Brisbane, caught up with someone esle's things! So I guess they just put everything in. Each item is labelled though with your details....

Best to ask the company how they share the container.....

Oh, also when it arrives in Australia it is cleared off the dock and into the bond store. This is a secure area usually managed by your Aus broker. From here the Oz broker (in our case Kent) must then schedule with Qarantine to inspect the shipment. Once this is done Customs do a final clearance and it is ready to be delivered.

Most quotes include all charges except quarantine inspection fees. These seem to vary greatly - ours was about $250. Some people have been hit with customs storage charges but we weren't, so I don't quite understand the criteria for that!

Working this out on our Australian program, taking in account that sizes vary on some furniture[aust king size beds are bigger] and estimating box numbers you have 19.7cubic metres of furniture, which equates to 2/3rds of a 20ft container............................. mm
