Default Shipping of cars and household goods

Have just had a very plesant hour reading through the forum, it has lots of really good information on it!

We (the wife and I)intend to take a car each when we emigrate in October, I have had a quote from first move international but I'm keen to know what other costs are involved?
Do I need to arrange customs clearance for the cars and the goods? If so how much is that going to be?

Any indicative costs would be greatly appreciated so I can see if we can afford to eat until October!

IIRC you needed to have owned it for 12months minimum, and most people ended up putting it in a shipping container along with the other household stuff. Two cars might be more hassle - maybe split the difference and take one/buy one?

Yep, see Polly's link to a recent thread. Also look up shipping cars on the website of the state you intend to import into e.g. QLD transport etc... as rules may have changed since we did it.

Good luck.

Are the cars models that you can get in Aus? If not they're going to be tricky to maintain in Aus. If they're just bog standard runabouts I wouldn't bother, seems like a whole lot of palaver to me. Of course if they're top of the range elite things then you might get a good resale value for them. There are cars for sale in Aus!
