The Sensible Australian Election Thread

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread
Libs wanted to return to a filter a teenager hacked within hours of launch. Socialism is related to economics. Filtering is a social policy associated with fascist or communist regimes. Was our choice at election time commie versus il dulce Abbott? Both idiots want to impress the religious right. In this case the greens are our saviour. All rather paradoxical that the perceived left is stopping the right. This term of government will be strange.
Yes, I agree with this - the filter is certainly about much more than blocking inappropriate content - I think that Conroy's single minded obsession with it demonstrates that. Censorship and prevention of access to information is a dandy policy of any extreme government, be it right, left or religiously ideological - not just the socialists.
In this case, the beligerence of the government in the face of overwhelming evidence and criticism was one of the main reasons that I declined to vote for them. If they could be as single minded and obdurate on this issue, how would they be on others?
Thankfully the Greens did come to our rescue, and we still get the benefit of the NBN. Let's just hope that it doesn't turn into another Channel Tunnel. The suspicious side of me wonders if the filter wasn't more about putting in place a mechanism for preventing illegal downloading etc as a sweetener to get the content developers on side to use the NBN as a delivery system.
