School meals in WA schools

No, hence the nut nazi's - if something even remotely looks like a nut, the kids go into battle mode - it's drilled into them never to swap food in case the other kid has an allergy you don't know about and they instantly die in front of you, turn into a zomby and eat your brains right there in the playground.
I think brains would have tasted better than the heat blasted vegemite sandwiches I used to take
I remember the little bottles of milk with fondness, used to love to take a spoonful of Nestle Quik twisted in some lunchwrap and mix it in. Then we got a new milkman, who used to ask all us girls what colour knickers we were wearing, and offering us an extra bottle of milk if we'd climb up into his truck, so waiting for the milkman wasn't so much fun anymore. God knows why we didn't report him to the teachers.

I was looking at the tuckshop menu for my son's school the other day - it's as boring as batshit. No sweets, choc or fizzy drinks. It's all 'healthy' sandwiches, wraps, yoghurt, juice etc. Nothing fun for kids

Was talking with my daughter-in-law today, apparently the new thing in primary school is 'nude lunches' - parents are told to pack lunches with no throw-away wrapping such as glad wrap, waxed paper etc. There was a competition for the class who brought the most 'nude lunches' in a month. The prize? Take-away from McDonalds!!! grrrrrrr

When I was at grammar school (1957-1964) mid-morning break you could buy sticky buns in the quadrangle - iced buns and buns filled with a revolting artificial cream were tuppence (2d) but if you were lucky there was one tray of long, sugar coated, cream filled doughnuts at thruppence (3d). Those were the days!
And at primary school you could buy plain biscuits (Rich Tea, Marie, etc) for about 2 a penny from memory. Just imagine the hygiene concerns these days if a school sold unwrapped biscuits from an open tin - without plastic gloves, of course - and yet we all lived through it.
