Maybe i could do a 2 week reccie in both areas when we arrive to see whats what? I know it would cost a few more £/$ but it may be worth it in the long run

Anyone with any opinions or experiences on reccies whilst arriving ? I'd appreciate any feedback!

Thanks for listening,

Lee
Have a look at these stuck, hope it helps, Adelaide was our choice. N

Lee - I guess it depends what kind of place you want to live in.
I've never been to Adelaide or Melbourne but have heard bits about both.
By all accounts Melbourne is diverse, vibrant and cosmopolitan. Also it's BIG. This may not be for everyone.
Adelaide gets described as a big country town.
It depends on the lifestyle you want I suppose.
Are you just getting the jitters? I know I am

I've been to both. Only lived in Adelaide, though. I think it really depends on what you are looking for. Please don't make the same mistake we did and think because houses are less expensive here that it will be the right choice. Melbourne is a lovely city. There are cosmopolitan shops in the CBD, an actual skyline, it's airport is a major international hub, so you will not have to change planes when you travel, it's clean (from what I saw), nice beaches, big, I could go on. Adelaide is smaller, less expensive, full of bogans (my part anyway), has nice beaches, less crowded.
I think you also have to think about what type of work you do. If you are a tradie, then you can go just about anywhere. Other skills mean you need a larger more urban centre.
If we could go back 12 months I think we would have gone with our first choice and not come to Adelaide. As much as I like it here, it's been an expensive learning experience.

I think it depends what you are after from the area you move to. If you can afford to do a reccie to both then that would probably help you to decide.

Ages ago we decided on Brisbane as we've been there and really liked it and we also have family there. Then a couple of weeks ago my hubby said what about Melbourne so no we are thinking about that too. We haven't been there though so its harder to know what it is like.

stuckinblighty, you can always visit perth, then melbourne then adelaide then make your mind up. we live in melbourne we love the 4 seasons of change of the weather. Adelaide is smaller than melbourne but also very nice you will make your mind up when you visit the places, there is one thing i know australia has more to offer in lifestyle than the UK.

I'm perfectly happy with Adelaide but my OH couldn't find work in his field. He's an electronics engineer but he specialises in high security type stuff. I have no idea actually what he does Anyway, I have a great job and nice friends and my kids are settled. Saying that, if we could go back in time we would have just gone with our original plan and gone to Perth in the first place where we both had jobs lined up instead of coming here and using our savings to live the past 8 months.
