Re: Queensland public servants declare war on Newman
Some say the actual unemployment figure is double the official figure. I doubt those being made redundant will find new jobs quickly but whether they are included in the next figures is anyones guess to be honest.

Re: Queensland public servants declare war on Newman
No one seems to know, it would be interesting to find out if there's any differences in how unemployment is calculated, I read somewhere that Australia and the UK have the same system, but the USA has a slightly different way of doing it, IMHO I think the figures are way out in both countries.

Judging by what I see and using friends and people I know as a guide there appears to be little if any difference between the % here and there. Both countries have areas of high unemployment and low unemployment. It APPEARS the numbers are more heavily massaged in Australia especially when you have a situation where we are seeing job losses across the board but at the same time the % drops

I don;'t know how the figures are worked out, but i believe that because those booted out of permanent government jobs get a "separation package" (not the temporary ones, they get nowt even after 20 years) then they cannot claim dole for months therefore are not "öfficially" unemployed - willing to stand corrected but I think thats correct. That would be therefore around 16,000 people joining the job market from the Govt in the next two months, but not counted.

Proof that Newman is destroying qld? Even the capitalist investors he's trying to woo still realize he's screwed the pooch by attacking the public sector too hard!

Re: Queensland public servants declare war on Newman
Here is the Brisbane Times version of the article. Of course the developer has self interest at heart but it is still quite an extraordinary attack.
Developer blacklists state under Newman
An international developer has blacklisted Queensland, saying Premier Campbell Newman can't be trusted with its money.
Singapore-based company Sembawang has cited the Newman government's job cuts in the public sector as part of the reason it won't consider any future investment in the state.
At the weekend, the company abandoned a proposed $5 billion tourism development on the Gold Coast following a dispute over its plans to include a second casino for the glitter strip.
Sembawang CEO Ric Grosvenor today accused Mr Newman of trying to protect Echo Entertainment, which operates Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and Brisbane's Treasury Casino.
Mr Grosvenor said Mr Newman had been unwilling to meet with him over Sembawang's casino plan, intended to sit alongside a 1500-room hotel and two cruise ship terminals in the Southport Broadwater.
The Queensland premier did not appear to be interested in growing the state, Mr Grosvenor said.
He cited Mr Newman's job cuts as a deal breaker for any future investment by Sembawang in Queensland, including in the mining industry.
"I saw a television clip of the now premier before he was elected promising not to make false redundancies of public servants and then I look at his actions," he said.
"A leader's job is not to impose austerity, and what I have seen in Queensland is just outrageous.
"What a business does is base everything on confidence. Confidence is founded on trust, and I have formed the view I would not deal with Sembawang's money in Queensland."
Mr Grosvenor said his company had wanted to invest in coal infrastructure in Queensland but there was no way that would be happening now.
"Now that I have investigated the character we are dealing with (the premier) there is no chance Sembawang will put money into Queensland," he said.
(my emphasis)
Mr Newman said when he first saw the Sembawang plans he thought they looked exciting and he still thought they looked exciting.
However, he said just because a developer came up to him with a proposal to use public land it did not mean he would simply say yes.
A tender process would be followed, Mr Newman said.
“We’re going to do things properly,” he told reporters in Brisbane today.
Mr Newman said if the government was going to issue another casino licence this would go to tender.
He rejected as “untrue” claims that he was protecting Echo Entertainment, saying he had publicly supported new development on the Gold Coast and had given in-principle support to a new casino.
Mr Grosvenor said Sembawang had made it clear that the inclusion of a casino was essential for the viability of its Gold Coast proposal.
But he said Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate, who was initially warm about the casino plan, had since told him that component was "unnecessary".
Mr Grosvenor said he believed that message had come from the premier, who had the power to decide who would get a casino licence.
Mr Tate said his council was considering another casino at a different Gold Coast site, possibly as part of a cultural precinct at Surfers Paradise.
And last week, Mr Newman said his government would consider a casino as part of the redevelopment of the Executive Building site on George Street in Brisbane.
In a brief statement, a spokeswoman for the premier said: "The Sembawang proposal, which includes a casino, would be absolutely welcome as a part of that process if the developer chooses to put it forward again."
But Mr Grosvenor said that would not be happening.
"The idea is to stop any competition for Jupiters which is part of the Echo Entertainment stable," he said.
"It would be decimated by the casino we proposed and you only have to follow the money and look at who is trying to take control of Echo to see why the Executive Building project will come for free with the movement of the Treasury licence."

Mr Sembawang needs to donate more to the liberal party. It served packer well who is putting a Casino into Barangaroo.

The piece above reads a little like a ransom demand, let us build the casino or we won't build at all.

Re: Queensland public servants declare war on Newman
Is that your opinion based on fact or a poll conducted over 3 months and averaged out? Using a poll base of 1145, started in July when the LNP were still quite popular,it is not a surprising result. I think if you analyse figures from other more recent polls you will find in fact that there has been a 12% swing away from the LNP and Mr Newman is still the most unpopular premier to date.
