Like a complete dumbass I've lost my UK passport, and I need some proof of ID to get into clubs/pubs etc and fly internally within Aus.

Does anyone know if there is alternative form of photo ID I can apply for (someone mentioned an 18 plus card?) that would arrive on my doorstep before my replacement passport will?

Any pointers appreciated. I'm in Brisbane by the way.

Thanks

Max

I've never been asked for a passport to fly internally!! However, sadly, to get NEW
photo identity within Oz is not easy. You will need 100 points of identity on the
standard system. Birth Certificate, bank or credit cards, driving licence, bank
pass-book, letter of reference, baptismal certificate, marriage certificate.........
seriously, I think I'd sit 'pretty' until I received my new passport!! Paul

Unfortunately I have to fly to Sydney in 3 weeks, with Virgin Blue, so I just need to provide 'some' sort of photo ID to verify I am who I say I am.

I have UK drivers licence, credit card, bank cards, a copy of birth certificate, I also have a photocopy of my passport, and an ETA business card with matching numbers to my passport etc.

Hopefully thats 100 points worth...any clue as to where I can go to get application forms etc?

*fingers crossed I can get 'something' within 3 weeks*

Thanks

Max

Wouldn't the best thing to be to get your passport back?

The Queensland Department of Transport have a 'Proof of Age' card which is
designed for people over 18 who don't have a driver's licence. I don't know if
it's photo ID or not but it wouldn't be too hard to find out. I'd imagine the
other ID you have with you would be enough to get one of these, and they are
probably issued over the counter.

Cheers, Jon

Max, You've got enough proof of existence already. I assume your drivers licence is a
'photo' licence. That's all most people carry. There are NO compulsory Id cards in
Australia. photo copy of your old passport should suffice in the extremely unlikely
event of your encountering a hostile immigration Officer.

Relax, Paul

UK drivers licences do not all have photos. There are still a number of old-style
paper ones in issue.

If your UK Drivers licence has, a photo, signiture, Date of birth & an address on it,
it CAN be used to fly internally, & to get into clubs, any bouncers who try to tell
you otherwise are full of shit!

I'm assuming you are fairly young (18 - 22) otherwise they wouldn't be asking you for
ID at a club, Your drivers licence should have a photo on it. Tell the guy at the
door that it is a "Goverment Issue ID".

If you use the British Consulate in either Brisbane or Canberra, You should get a
replacement passport within 4 or 5 days.

Cheers, James

I dont have a photo on my UK drivers licence, unfortunately, otherwise I would use that. I've just got the usual, old tattered bit of green paper.

I'm actually 24, knocking on 25, but I always get carded at clubs/pubs anyway. God knows why!

I didnt realise it would be so fast, 4 or 5 days. I was expecting more like 2-3 months.

Anyway, Thanks for all your help everyone,

Max

Max, You've got to be assertive in these situations; not nasty or aggressive;
politely assertive. YOU are the taxpayer who keeps the gilded diplomats in their
cushy jobs after all!!!!

Cheers Paul
