We applied in June 2001, and are therefore not expecting to hear anything until June/Sept 2002 (even though we were quoted 9 months when we applied!). What I do not understand is, now that applicants have to apply direct to Adelaide, will they be 'jumping the queue' or will Adelaide not be issuing visas under the General Skilled category for at least a year?
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
Regards,
Andy

I wouldn't become too despondent with regards to your application. After speaking to Adelaide last night, unless you are an IT applicant, the waiting time will be approx 1 year, I suspect that this, as with previous London estimates, is conservative and could be much greater. The Australian authorities certainly do not 'encourage' high quallity skilled migrants by their laborious migration process. Perhaps we should all just jump on boats in Indonesia, land on Australian shores and claim asylum status.

From what I heard, applications sent now to Adelaide in the offshore visa subclasses
(136, 138,,139) are unlikely to result in visa grant before the middle of 2002 in
most cases.
Adelaide is granting visas in the onshore categories (mainly overseas students
graduating) this year.

From the email from Dima KL, Malaysia, the officer told me that all applications
prior to 01 Nov 2001 will be processed in Malaysia (ie in the country). That means
your application will not be sent to Adelaide for processing if I understand him
correctly.
