Perth, Melbourne or Queensland ??
Hi
We are planning on making the move next year but would really like some advice from someone who has made the big move
We understand they are big places but would like some honest advice on the different areas
Thanks

Queensland is huge. Hard to understand how huge until you are here. It has large differences in climate and in the general way of life, between the tropical north, the less humid southeast, and the barren inland/outback. You'd really need to tell us more about what you are looking for - what kind of work? Rural, outback or urban lifestyle? How much do you like heat and humidity?

In 2/3 words about each.
Melbourne, multicultural, overcrowded, most entertainment, central to other states, diverse weather, from -4 - 44 is possible.
Qld, tropical or sub tropical, lush, green, coastal, cheap housing ( for OZ ) new and growing rapidly, casual, very Aussie.
Perth, attractive small city in a huge state, very hot to quite cold and wet in winter, expensive, a very long way from other Australian cities.
Suburbs? well there are over 300 just in melbourne.

Are you sure your partner's job is on the SOL? Have you looked at www.immi.gov.au
yet to see whether he/you qualify for a visa?
As for what you're looking for, you really do need to be much more specific.
Decent weather is very subjective. It's currently in the low 20s here in Perth and I'm sitting in slippers and sleeping with a blanket on.
Not too built up. In relation to what? London? The Scottish Highlands? Built up, again is a very subjective thing. Perth is very sparsely populated compared with where I'm from but is very overcrowded compared with, say Isle of Man.
Safe for young children in what way? Not being axe murdered? Well, that pretty much sums up everywhere in any first world country. Don't you find it kind of an oxymoron that you want somewhere safe for your children but with a need for security technicians?
Lots of things for a young family. Again, like what? My partner's kids grew up in a town of 2000 people in rural Western Australia. I have never heard them complain about not having anything to do. My children grew up in a very large urban area and always had things to do. What exactly are you looking for your young family to do?
Please bear in mind that if you want good information you have to give good information. Nobody here is clairvoyant.

Have to agree with Dorothy and what is decent weather? Is decent weather sweating and having to wear sun screen all day (including water shortages), or would an oceanic climate be better like Hobart? Personally I think kids can be happy anywhere, but having outdoor space would be an advantage. Coming back to the weather, as kids we were always out in the rain and never complained. It was the perfect climate until you heard grown ups moaning.

I'm just curious whythe question is 'Perth, Melbourne or Queensland'. Why do you ask about Queensland not just Brisbane, and not consider country Victoria or WA?

I am seriously considering a move to a more rural area in the not too distant future. While I love my job in the city and like where I live I think I'm ready to give up the commuter rush and look for somewhere a little quieter. I know...quieter than Perth sounds ridiculous.

I have a lovely guy in my life right now, so that's kind of out of the question. Besides, I have something in the pipeline for a quieter life and if it works out then I'll be sure to update

Re: Perth, Melbourne or Queensland ??
Virtually everywhere will have warmer temps than England. Melbourne is on average 7C warmer than southern England, Queensland never really gets cold, and stretches into the tropics. Perth is somewhere inbetween.
What you will find is that aussies LUV built up, with the spots in the centre of cities being the expensive ones. They are weird like that. As such the suburbs are usually 4 bed detached at semi-reasonable prices, and a little further out is acreage. Question tends to be more of time taken to get to where you want to go, and level of 'civilisation'.
From snakes/spiders etc.? - usually pretty good, just don't touch anything.
From the sun? - hats and sun block
From axe murderers? - they tend to focus on killing their own groups.
Sports is basically everywhere, and most places outside the CBD have open areas, etc.
The issue tends to be the reverse, to find gigs and events you need to be within commute distance of Melbourne or Sydney CBDs. Some tours go elsewhere, but at much reduced rate. Hence why people get bored in Perth (you run out of places you haven't been, and few tours get there) or Queensland (unless you like the Benidorm like Gold Coast).
Not sure you are going to find that on the SOL, or indeed anything that you could swing classifying yourself as. Maybe a state 'occupation in demand'?
