Default Kalgoorlie-Boulder

Anyone here from Kal?
Ive read about some of the 'bad' parts (nothing compared to parts of Manchester!), but what are the good things about Kal?

Is it more expensive than say Perth on a week to week cost of living or cheaper?

Thanks

Never been myself, but my friend has just moved from Hillarys to Kalgoorlie for 18 months while her hubby works out a contract. She didn't rate it much (said there wasn't much to do for the kids) and while she rented her 4x2 here out for $360/wk, the 3x2 she's rented in Kalgoorlie is $375. Don't know if that helps you any .

Yep i'm in Kal and can probably give you some idea of life here, there are no parts that can be compared to Manchester :scared: Generally the cost of living is said to be 20% higher than Perth and thats what the wages reflect. However while some things are a bit more expensive(rents/fuel/food are slightly) the wages reflect any rise and therefore it's not too bad.

If you need any further info just ask

Cheers

Now is water, electric etc dearer or about the same?
We see the house prices are much cheaper than Perth and you can get a quarter acre block cheaper than here in Perth.

I'm in a rented 2 bed unit(seperate bungalow to you) Elec 60 days supply charge $15 approx elec units 13 cents approx. Depends on units used. Gas is some mains, but more usually Bottle. about $90 per bottle. Using a lot more in the winter for heating. It gets cold here especially at night in the winter. Other houses will have reverse cycle heating or electric heaters. Water no idea but none of these utilities are horrific in cost, just same old...same old
Property definitely cheaper. Blocks just going up for sale in Karlkula rise near new golf course(to be constructed) 617 m2 to1256m2 $95k to $188k..this weeks real estate paper. Existing houses can be fibro or new brick built. Plenty on the market, it's all down to personal choice. There are modern developments in most areas of Kal. Most people say north of the railline is better, Lamington, Hannans etc. Personal choice again
If you're in Perth the biggest difference i think you'll notice is the property prices, everything else is relative, hope this helps
