We're a way off yet, what with sorting out an RRV, saving etc.....The seeds have been planted though! Just very disillusioned with the UK and where it will head over the next 10-20 years. Not sure we want our boy being a part of it as he's growing up.
One thing is for sure, we will be giving BrisVegas a wide berth - bin there, outgrew the t-shirt!

A yes the grass is greener Its funny really how friends in Australia ar commenting on how they dont like the way things are going and fear for the future. Speaking from experience nowhere is immune from it and the uncertainty of the next decade or so. Our kids are flourishing since coming to the UK so I guess it just shows there is no one size fits all.
All the best with whatever you do just be realistic in your expectations.

Never been to Adelaide myself. A colleague of mine lives there after migrating from the UK. He loves it but it also could be a bit of pride about his choice of cities. He just bought a 4 bed, swimming pool, double garage for was I would pay for a 1 bed apartment in Syd. He never leaves the house now ........ Is that a good thing?

Careful. Leaving the UK and giving Brisbane a wide berth draws a reaction round here.

As anywhere Adelaide has cheaper(er) housing for good reason. I actually like Adelaide but wouldnt like the stiffling heat in the summer.

Is that a good thing? It all depends on your time in life I guess. I'm heading towards that these days......i suppose it's a sign of being happy with your lot and not feeling the need to go anywhere else to seek enjoyment.

Anyhow, lazing around the pool on a 38 degree, dry heat day has got to be better than sweating it out on a wet heat, 28 degree day in Brisbane. Just not a fan of humidity.

We visited Adelaide and although enjoyed the visit we decided it was not for us, same type of weather as Perth (WA) but can get hotter and just not a great deal to do as Adelaide seemed smaller than Perth. We recently went to France for a holiday and met an Aussie couple who had lived in France for 3 years and loved it, they said they did not like the way Australia was heading and that they wanted their children to have a broader outlook on life culturally etc, so it would seem most their are a lot of people "out there" chasing something that might not be so different in the end. Good luck with everything

it also features in the places where Expats are perhaps quite fractured in their opinion..
Adelaide ...it's like Melbourne but prob gets more days of heat than Melbourne gets. Melbourne is famous for hot days- rarely more than 3 in a row - Adelaide gets I believe the same - but maybe a week.
it is a dry heat - many say that is easier to cope with - some people prefer a humid heat but my worldly experience is that it is a minority - (save for people who were raised in humidity).
The dry heat of Melbourne (and Adelaide) means that you can wear a jacket in summer and maybe cast it off on the way home: the evenings can be very pleasant as a result.
