Hi Swigski , well done in getting your position , i`ll be starting in july 6th , based at parramatta . Just to let you know i received an e-mail last week regarding payscale ALL Paras from the UK are implemented from day one at Paramedic year 2 with a base salary of ....wait for it......$54,975 per year= to (£24,445 pa) which will rise to $63,546 pa = to (£28,267 pa) after on road practium to Paramedic specialist , any penalties and allowance rates are additional , i persume that means weekend and night shift allowances too!...I hope so `cos bring home pay works out at about $3358 per month on your base salary...=(£1,467 monthly) rising to $3,900 per month ...= (£1729 monthly)
i am not sure what allowances are worth as with uk Paras we are on 25% shift allowance , does anyone know what the % allowances are for shifts and can any ex uk para in nsw tell me what is the actual take home pay after these pay awards?
I did ask about time served being a Paramedic and what relation does this have on NSW pay , being in the job now for 23 years and a para since 1993 they have said that salary isnt based on number of years so please be aware of this .
One last thing , with the global financial probs my brother in law who lives on the northern beaches has just spent 3 weeks in the uk has told me that petrol pump prices are high equal to 63p a litre now so make sure everyone that you`ve done your sums !!
If i can help with anymore info let me know, cheers everyone !

Well, as I've always said "I'll never be rich as a Paramedic!" At least it'll be warmer in Sydney

Thanks for the info

Good news mate! Based on that timeframe, I may hear from them sometime in Jan! At interview, there was mention of me getting on the May course so I may see you around....hopefully

I think the best thing is to e-mail them and tell them when you want to start. They need a date to prepare your written job offer without which you cannot get your visa. The date you give can be changed depending on circumstances like house sale etc. I found that giving them a ring also helps speed things up.

They specifically asked me at interview which course date would suit me and I told them May (11th I think). This fits in well as my partner finishes the taught content of her MSc in May and has been allowed to submit her dissertation by email.

I think I'll wait until the New Year before giving them a call to see how things are progressing

Hi guys.

Just been reading one of the many recent reviews into ASNSW, and was a bit concerned regarding the taking of annual leave.

Can anyone confirm whether it is still current practice to have to take your leave in 2x3 week blocks, or 1x6 week block, or is it possible to take it as and when, like we do in the UK?

During my interview it was explained that leave is to be taken in blocks, cant remember whether it was a minimum of 1 or 2 week blocks. So if you needed a day or so off, you would need to apply for a weeks leave, shift swap or a sicky.

Ta for that John. Much appreciated.

I take it that was your NSW interview before you accepted the position in QLD?

From the above posted Pay Review document:

Once an employee becomes entitled to annual leave (ie. after the initial 12 month
period of employment has occurred) annual leave will be taken biannually in two
separate periods of three weeks duration. Provided that the giving and taking of such
leave may be postponed by mutual agreement between the parties for a further period
not exceeding six months. Providing further that, with the agreement of the Service,
an employee may take their annual leave in one period of 6 weeks duration.
