I have not seen blade steak at $5/kg recently; more around $8/kg.

I could probably find it at the lower price at bulk or discount butchers but the saving is not sufficiently attractive for me to travel the extra distance.

I imagine most people consider it to be a winter curry, casserole or slow cooker ingredient when diced and for that reason it might not sell well in warm weather and the price would reflect that.

Blade is also OK for stir fry but requires fat and gristle being deftly cut away - which requires patience and persistence and, again, the price is discounted due to that by many.

Both styles of cooking allow meals to be bulked with cheaper vegetable ingredients.

Re: the cheap meat barns. tried a few of them, the ads suck you in , eg chicken fillets for eg, 6.99 a kilo, yes but half of that kilo was skin and fat. Crumbed lamb chops, more like crumbed lamb gristle - disgusting. The steak thats cheap is usually mostly fat and bone. Like the cheap bread, made with the same flour they make clag glue with

Theres a cheapo fruit and veg barn here they started out great, all by the kilo, now its all prepacked and once its opened half of it inside is rotten, grubs/worm holes etc.

Another reason I don't buy from them although there may be some which are better.

An improvement, however, on convict ship provender I think you will admit, although the latter was cheaper by far.

Personally, I'd rather starve than chew away at a bit of meat for 20 mins!!

Buy in bulk from an organic farm - if we've got them in WA, you've got them in Qld. The organic beef we buy works out at $7-8/kg for all cuts if you order a side and is superb. We also get bulk merino lamb - $5-6/kg.

Supermarket/market meat is shite and overpriced.

We also make our own bread, butter, jam, ice cream and sorbet (if I can make this stuff then anyone can. Thermomix is the way to go.

Our discount butchers is closer to us than the supermarket

It is probably $8 or $9 in the supermarket, but the cheaper one is better quality.

Cheap in price, yes, but the quality is more often better than the supermarket stuff. I stopped buying from Woolworths when this local butcher opened, as 90% of what they have is much better that Woolworths, AND cheaper.

People on here complain that prices are too high in Australia, but when shown prices that are lower ...
People on here complain that if it is cheap it must be rubbish... without even tasting it !!
No wonder some places like to keep prices high, for those people who refuse to pay lower prices !
