No refugee problem in Australia

Then again why should there not be its a country of refugees and immigrants some are bound to be iffy? not unlike the UK .
Them Hungery Jacks Whoppers (Burger King) do it for me now I know why , do they use a secret ingredient ?

A NIGERIAN refugee who organised to take possession of 1kg of heroin from a South African courier is facing 25 years in jail after being convicted of the crime.

Francis Chukwudi Umeloh, 27, has been found guilty of attempting to possess a trafficable quantity of heroin, after meeting the courier over a burger at a Hungry Jacks outlet in Perth.

Umeloh's four-day West Australian District Court trial heard he had been living in the Sydney suburb of Canterbury since arriving in Australia on a visitor's visa in December 1999.

Prior to that, he had left Nigeria for South Africa, citing persecution in Nigeria because he was homosexual.

But he was unable to leave South Africa on a Nigerian passport so he changed his surname from Magubane to the South African name of Umeloh in order to get a new passport.

Once in Australia, he was granted a bridging visa and he then applied for refugee status and was given a temporary protection visa.

In March 2001, Umeloh flew to Perth from Sydney to meet up with a man who had flown in from South Africa on a dummy run of what would later be an intended exchange of heroin.

Crown prosecutor Darren Renton told the court Umeloh returned to Perth again on May 11 that year for the planned meeting.

Umeloh met the courier the following day at the busy Hungry Jacks restaurant in Perth's CBD.

But police already had intercepted the courier on his arrival in Perth, and had substituted the heroin and organised to wire him for his meeting with Umeloh.

Police kept surveillance on the pair as they travelled around the city, eventually moving in when the fake drugs were exchanged at Umeloh's motel room in the industrial area of Belmont.

The jury deliberated for just two-and-a-half hours yesterday before convicting Umeloh, who now faces up to 25 years in jail - the same penalty as if he'd actually possessed the drug. He will be sentenced by Judge Henry Jackson on April 29.

Details about the courier were suppressed.

Often your post are quite funny, sometimes even interesting, but this one...?

Here's an idea PB, when you relate one of your little anecdotes in the future, have a point.... it makes it so much more interesting for the reader!

Please accept profuse apologies. In mitigation, he was giving me indigestion of the retina.
